Hockey Fights Cancer
Your Sturgeon Lake Thunder U-18 OMHA team has planned to host a Pink in the Rink game to raise funds in support of cancer treatment and research. Our opponent will be the U-18 OMHA team from the Douro Dukes Minor Hockey Association.
“The last 2 years have been very difficult for everyone – we’ve all struggled, people and businesses alike. The ability of most organizations to effectively fundraise has been greatly reduced due to the pandemic restrictions. While there are many worthy charities, our team decided that all funds raised during the game will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.”
Our Thunder team will be wearing one of a kind pink and purple jerseys during the game. Via a silent auction, spectators will have the chance to win one of these commemorative jerseys. Donations will also be accepted and appreciated, with 100% of the funds raised being donated to the charities.
“As players and coaches we benefit in so many ways from participating in the game of hockey, but we can also use the game to give back to our communities and those in need as well. Since each one of us knows someone who has been affected by cancer, we’ve decided to support this organization.”
Unfortunately, due to the impact of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and the restrictions announced by the Province of Ontario, we will be unable to sell tickets to the game. Depending on the length of the shutdown beginning on January 5th, it may be that we are unable to play the game at all, or if we can play it will be with severe limits on spectator numbers.
However, with perseverance and true Thunder spirit, we will not let COVID stop us from raising these much needed funds. The fundraising and silent auction is now on-line via our website, so you can still support the cause.
